Stand-up comic Carlos Mencia is not afraid to offend ethnic groups. Luckily, he's funny.
by Peter Hartlaub
It's more than a day before Carlos Mencia is scheduled to film his latest Comedy Central stand-up special at the SF Weekly Warfield theater in San Francisco, and about a dozen workers are putting the finishing touches on the stage.
Mencia won't storm the building for another 32 hours. Ned Mencia, however, quietly strolled in a few minutes ago. And he's slowly making the rounds, passing out compliments as he introduces himself to stagehands and a couple of guys from Dallas who built a tricked-out chopper that Carlos will mount for his smoke-filled Big Entrance -- which includes a 20-foot-tall marionette of a lollipop-holding pedophile priest.
